Y'all Listen Up

A President Among Men.

We’re not prone to boasting ’round the Smokehouse, but we’re pretty darn proud of being a part of a time-honored tradition of BBQ cookin’ and eatin’.

As it happens, good old fashioned BBQ gatherings are a White House legacy, with none other than Thomas Jefferson blazing the trail (or firin’ up the grill, if you will). Lyndon B. Johnson gave the boys and girls at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue a taste of the real thing when the 36th president introduced them to true Texas-style ribs. The rest is literally history. Jimmy and Roslayn Carter as well as Ronald and Nancy Raegan passed the torch down the line, adding their own flavor and flair along the way.

Of course our Texan friends George H. and George W. Bush had to bring Congress in on the fun, hostin’ annual barbeques for the legislative branch on the South Lawn, taking us all the way to present day. In 2013, our current White House residents hosted a 4th of July celebration featuring BBQ and honoring 12,000 military families, and we can’t think of a better way to enjoy our favorite food than that.

So the next time you want to dine in good company, head on over to Harris County Smokehouse to eat just like American royalty.
